My Students

Do you remember the time your computer died for the last time before you gave in and got a knew one? Our classrooms teacher computer was provided by the district over ten years ago. If I had the personal funds to replace this slow moving pop-up attractor I would.

I teach in a school where the majority of the population comes from the culture of poverty.

Seventy five percent of the student population qualifies for free and reduced lunch. The rest of the schools in the district are below thirty percent in free and reduced numbers. At those schools, the Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO) are able to provide teachers with materials through fund-raising etc. Most of our fund-raising efforts go directly for the basic needs of our students.

My Project

For our school, teacher computers serve many purposes. First, the computer is used in combination with an LCD projector for websites, word documents, power points, excel-based student scores, etc. We also use the DVD capability in order to project a video. Our school does not have a single T.V. or cable. In order to project breaking news, United Streaming (Web based video) we have to use our teacher computer. If a new teacher computer is provided, student learning will be greatly increased in all areas but especially math and science.

In short, the teacher computer is used at almost every second of the day and it is the hub of our classrooms learning.

I hate to have that learning frozen multiple times in a day because of a poor computer!
