My Students

Our school day is too short! National Geographic Explorer magazine will allow me to teach nonfiction literacy skills while introducing students to current science and social studies content. As an added bonus, I can teach students how to write feature articles through these well-written examples.

The students are sixth graders in an elementary building in rural Kentucky.

We try to prepare the students academically and socially to leave our close-knit elementary building and successfully step into the county-wide middle school. While some of the students are new to our school, other students are following in the footsteps of parents and grandparents who attended the same elementary school.

My Project

National Geographic Explorer magazine offers well-written, nonfiction feature articles covering science and social studies content no student can resist. Numerous, close-up color photographs will attract the most reluctant readers. The nonfiction reading skills of the students will improve, and many students will become lifelong readers with this exciting reading material. Most of these students have little travel experience, but the magazine will enable the students to explore the world.

National Geographic Explorer will allow students to travel the world, improve nonfiction literacy skills, and read exciting news from the world of science and social studies.

In addition, the articles will provide examples for writing feature articles as well as examples of exceptional photography.
