This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Education is something that can be so much more enhanced and engaging through the use of technology. Working in Corporate America for years has shown me the importance for a student to be familiar and comfortable with using and exploring technology. As a teacher, I can engage my students and have them buy into their education only when they are personally invested. My students love technology and desire instruction in software, programs, and the many possibilities that technology offers.
Working at the poorest High School in Chicago, I see the importance for a stimulating class daily that can develop a student's curiosity and desire to learn. My students struggle with many things in their lives. If I could make my classroom complete with the resources I need to bring my students into this age of technology, I know their interest in their own education would heighten.
The goal of this grant is to obtain an LCD projector. An LCD projector is a very valuable tool that will empower ALL of my students to display visually stimulating presentations(sound and video integration) that they will be creating throughout the entire year to their peers in the classroom, and the entire school. Not only will this expose students to technology that they do not have at home, but they will become a part of the learning process by taking responsibility in helping others engage in concepts that previously had no value to them. English, current events, powerpoint tutorials, grammar lessons, are so much more fun for the students when they can interact with it, and really SEE what is being taught instead of trying to visualize ?mysterious and magical' processes. If I could wish for anything in my classroom, it would be for an LCD projector.
The possibilities are endless for what I could do with this resource in my classroom. I could creat a visually interactive lesson plan daily, explore the internet with students, guide students through creating websites, online book reports, learning how to blog, posting and publishing their original pieces of work on different sites, interactive student presentations, and soooo much more. This real life connection to the world beyond our community and classroom would be enlightening to my classroom.
