I teach Physical Education at Albany Middle School to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. I teach 142 students during the day. I team-teach with the male physical education teacher. Through the course of one day, I see 302 students in physical education. When you see that many students, it is important for all to be actively involved. In today's world where we have a growing rate of obesity among children, physical education has become that much more important. In many cases, my PE class is the only activity that a child may receive during the course of a day. Because of that reason, I try to provide a fun and enjoyable atmosphere to all of my students. I am asking for more equipment for smaller groups. Right now, I have only 5 volleyballs to teach an average class size of 35. If I had 12 volleyballs, students would be able to participate more because they don't have to share limited equipment when I am teaching skills for that unit. My equipment is limited in almost every unit I teach. Here is a list of equipment that I am asking for: 12 volleyballs, 12 footballs, 12 soccer balls, 12 basketballs, 12 cabbage balls(substitute for softballs), 3 rubber bowling balls, and 15 cones (which are used for boundaries). Any equipment would be GREATLY appreciated. In the times after Hurricane Katrina, money is tight and Physical Education is the last subject to be considered. Thank you so much for considering my propsal.
