Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a Special Ed teacher in a classroom with 3rd-5th grade students who have emotional disabilities. This year I have incorporated dramatic play time at the end of each day to promote creative expression and positive social interaction among all of the students. In the classroom, we work on improving behavior at all times in order to progress academically. Before the dramatic play time started, the students would often manipulate or dominate other games that were played. Once the dramatic play was included in our day, students suddenly took on roles and included everyone (all nine of them) and got along for an entire 45 minutes. Right now, we do not have dramatic play items in our classroom. Students use rolled up posters as wands, math blocks as money, and pieces of paper as food. It is my goal to include other dramatic play items in the classroom so that they can continue to expand their creativity. Thank you.
