Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the endless barrage of mindless worksheets that teachers gave as "busy work" so that they could work with small groups? Help put that old nightmare to rest with these exciting, high-interest reading centers and games.

From the quiet girl who rarely says a word (yet speaks volumes with her eyes) to the little actor who has the whole class in stitches during Readers' Theater, my kiddos are a collage of the very best that the public school has to offer.

Best because they have heart and soul. They put it all on the line every day in the classroom. They have learned to take risks in the learning environment. We are a diverse family-red and yellow, black and white; they are all precious in my sight. We work hard and play hard - sometimes both at the same time!

My Project

These reading centers and games will entice and inspire students to become active, engaged readers. The high-interest, self-correcting nature of the materials will enable students to have more choice, be able to work independently and take ownership of their own learning. This will free me to be able to work with small groups of students who need more individualized instruction.

Funding this project will provide students in a high-poverty population to have access to high-interest, high-quality, motivating materials.

The fun nature of the games will encourage students to want to read. This will open up new worlds to students who often live a very limited scope of experiences.
