My Students

My art students create fantastic works of art using the simplest and most basic of materials, including many recycled materials. I have several printing projects that would benefit from a good, reliable printing press to achieve an even, smooth finish on their prints.

My students are so enthusiastic about creating art.

I see 600 students a week for 45 minutes each. They complain that art is not long enough. They soak up every experience, especially the printmaking process. We have created glue-line prints, string prints, linoleum prints, and styrofoam prints. I would love to give them a quality piece of equipment to make their prints appear smoother and professional. We display work around town in galleries, businesses, and libraries. The community loves it and they ask for more!

My Project

The printing press will allow my students to create smooth, even, professional-looking prints every time. They will learn how to print like the master print makers. They will gain knowledge of printmaking techniques using a variety of materials such as rubber blocks, linoleum, and string! The press will be used by all the children (600) as printmaking can be adapted to suit all age groups. The press will last for many years and therefore benefit thousands of students. Prints will be displayed in local galleries, framed, and hung in school, converted into thank you cards and will be seen and enjoyed by many people in the community.

My students come from a high poverty area.

We have minimal funding for school art supplies, all of which must be spent on the basics each year: paper, paint, glue. My students will absolutely love the idea of using a quality piece of equipment on which to create their beautiful work. I believe this will encourage many to want to pursue art through middle and high school and onto college. They will gain so much self-esteem when their work is displayed through the community.
