Hello, I teach kindergarten at Albany Lower Elementary. I have been teaching for 21 years. I have seventeen students in my class. We live a very poor rural community with no industries to support our people. Money is very limited. I would like to have seventeen Leap Pads and games for the students to interact with at school and at home. Being exposed to reading at an early age is crucial. Experts agree that parents should read to their children. By sending Leap Frogs home with the students, we can nurture a lifetime love of early learning and parental involvement. Students in our area are not exposed at an early age to reading because many of our parents do not have the money to buy Leap Pads nor do they realize how valuable they can be towards their early education. When a child brings home a Leap Pad and reader the child becomes excited because of they can read words on their own and interact with the story. Leap Pads do the reading for the parents. All that has to be done is to slide the magic pencil across the word and the word is read for them.
Leap Pads can bring the gift of reading to the student without any expense to the parent. One of the first activities that will be sent home with the Leap Frog Pads is to make reading a fun and enjoyable experience. A Leap Pad Journal will be sent home with the Leap Frogs. Inside the journal will be the following directions: ?Set aside 10 minutes of the day that would be fun and enjoyable. Find a place where you and your child can have some quite time together. Open up the book and begin to read. Remember this is fun time together, so any words that you do not know, try to sound them out and swipe the word with the special pencil. When the story is finished, open up the journal to the next page and write a story about where you were, when you read the story, which story you read, the name of the person reading to you, and what you read about. Please include any special activities you did together, which parts of the book you liked the best, and would you recommend this book to your friends. The child then returns to school the next day with the journal and Leap Frog Pad and tells what is written in the journal.? Some other activities that can be added later are: flashcards to match and find words, having the parent and child act out the story to make it fun, sending home sentences for reconstruction that pertain to the story. Without Leap Frog pads, my students would not be able to bring them home and create a love of reading. The Leap Pads will be used to boost reading skills, build confidences in reading and help student be better prepared to take standardized test. They will be used for many years to come. The Leap pads will be checked out using a checkout system and notes will be sent to parents who do not return the pads. A camera will be sent home with the parents to capture the joy of reading at home. I would like for all seventeen of my students to have the opportunity to read from Leap Pads; therefore, I am asking for eighteen Leap Frog Pads, books, and additional libraries for additional activities. This is a critical time for children to be exposed to reading.
