Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

If you look and listen, you will learn. I am a teacher in a Kindergarten Collaborative Classroom where students have special needs and they receive related services. All students in my school receive free lunch. Most students in my class do not live in permanent housing. Some of them live in shelters.

Due to circumstances from their home life, my students face the challenge of not being able to focus for a long period of time, thus they need to improve their listening skills. I don't have adequate books on tape and other resources like enough headphones that would build a good listening center which will enable my students to become better listeners.

I need a CD player, headphones, and several kits of books on tapes that are engaging and interesting, with unique characters that students will enjoy listening to which will help them to stay focused. In the process they will develop their listening skills, their reading and comprehension skills and help them become good storytellers. These resources are unavailable to them and DonorsChoose will make it possible for them to become better listeners.

The help of donors from DonorsChoose will make a big difference in their lives. Your help will ensure that my students become great listeners, because they have the resources that will help them become great listeners using books on tapes that they will love. I strongly believe that they would want to hear these stories again and again. My students will be able to reach the point where they can be focused during mini-lessons and follow directions the first time they're given. They will also develop good reading habits, reading stamina and good comprehension skills.
