Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

The Coolest Kindergarten Class Ever! We are a small class that is a part of a public charter school. We are just learning to read and write and growing in knowledge at a rapid rate! We are in an extremely high-need community. Several of my students do not own bookbags, let alone books.

We have absolutely no books. (Well, that's a lie. We have 4 books. But, as you can imagine, we've read them.) The children want nothing more than to read.

So, we need a selection of children's literature. My class is very fond of Dr. Seuss, so I went a little crazy with the Seussical selections, but it would mean the world to them to experience these books, especially, "My Book About ME," of which I have requested a copy for each of my 14 students.

You have a chance to fan the flame for these children. They are eager to learn, eager to read, but lacking in resources. Having this classroom library can only encourage them. The "My Book About ME" will also be a wonderful class project that will encourage them to write and take pride in their work. For many of them it will be the only book, possibly the only thing they have ever owned. It would mean the world to them.
