My Students

Not being able to talk or maybe even hear can make it difficult to appreciate music. My students have these challenges but through a special program, I have found that instruments have allowed the students to express themselves.

My students are wonderful people who have physical and mental challenges.

Nothing comes easy for them. Our ages range from 5 to 12. Some of them are learning to walk for the first time, one learning sign language so we can communicate with her, while others are learning letters and colors. We love the 4th grade peer helpers that come to our room and play ball with us and help us with our school work.

My Project

The past two years my classroom has been a part of a program call Very Special Arts. It has been paid for by a special group of ladies in our community. For this program, a woman came to my classroom for 45 minutes each week and exposed the students to multiple instruments. Each student was able to have several turns playing the instrument. Every week is a different instrument and activity. Some weeks we played along with music. We have danced and sang along too. I just found out last week that due to all the government education cuts, the Very Special Arts program will not be available next year.

With your donation, we will be one step closer to providing my students with some instruments.

I will then be able to carry on the intentions of the Very Special Arts program even though the program has been cut. Adding these instruments to the ones I have already acquired will allow the students to continue to enjoy music as they have learned to by our "Very Special" Very Special Arts instructor.
