The Sun Is Our Battery

My students need a solar oven, several racers, and solar powered materials that will help to develop a passion for the sun and it's power.

My students are considered "at-risk" students. They are at-risk of dropping out of school, at-risk of being uneducated, unmotivated and unemployed. My students are all on Individualized Education Plans that are built to support their positive behaviors, and try to diminish their negative behaviors t

We are a self contained Special Education Program with many students with emotional and behavior/anger management issues. They are intelligent individuals with bright ideas and inspiring energy, but like any individual with a disability they communicate their needs and wants differently than the main streamed population at school and in our communities. I want to expose them to many of the topics that effect our planet on a global scale, and specifically give them a chance to learn the importance of finding alternative fuels for our future.

We have asked for materials that will help to educate, demonstrate and give the students hands on participation with their experience. We have asked for a video from Nova to watch in class, several solar powered racer kits to build and race. We have also asked for a solar oven where we will cook a meal by the suns rays. Through hands on experience with building solar powered vehicles our students will come to understand the power of using the greatest source of energy in the universe, the Sun. The Sun is a battery that will burn for billions of years and we are just learning how we can use it to our advantage. My students should have an experience where they can contribute to the planet. This project will be a spring board into a challenge to build a life size vehicle using solar power to run.

If you choose to fund this project, your help will empower my students to understand and possibly contribute to the future of a global issue like fueling vehicles and powering our homes. Funding this project will give my students the tools that they need to benefit the planet rather than use the planet up without giving back in any way.
