Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a first year seventh grade physical science teacher at Thurgood Marshall Academy in Harlem, NY and I am looking to increase my arsenal of teaching tools. In the short time I have been teaching I liken the profession to many things, however when starting a new unit, I liken my role to that of a saleswoman. And as anyone knows, when a saleswoman has no product to show of, when giving her pitch, sales are low, or should I say comprehension is not optimal. The next product I am scheduled to sell is forces and the products I need are spring scales. Spring scales are an integral tool when teaching forces. Without them, forces are an abstract fictitious story students are expected to believe. Armed with spring scales they will be able to see forces, which in turn will help them to define the world around them. I have observed, when students have something concrete to learn with, their retention of the material is longer lasting. I thank you in advance for helping me increase my sales!!
