I currently teach Kindergarten through 6th grade art, approximately 500 students a week. The community is rural, but we are working to introduce more technology into the classroom for the students to use. I specifically have worked into my classroom many computer-based art projects including graphic design and this digital claymation project to show students how technology and art is very connected in our present age.

Our school district has had declining enrollment and severe cutbacks that have limited budgets. In addition, our older equipment has decided to all stop functioning at the same time (television, DVD player, camera, card reader), and our restricted budget cannot replace all of these items. Students have always been excited to put together their claymation movies, but were not able to last year because of hardware failures. The students were incredibly disappointed, as was I.

We need to replace our digital camera so that students can create these amazing digital claymation movies again. They also need this camera to record their artwork to put on the school website and in the school newspaper for families and the community to see the value of our art program at a time when the arts are being cut back or cut entirely.

Your help will make it possible for my students to create movies reminiscent of those they have seen on the big screen. These movies are shown at our annual art show and on our school webpage, allowing parents and the community to see the skills of the students as well as the depth of the elementary art program.
