This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach Calculus and Geometry and coach robotics at a very large and very diverse urban high school in Missouri.
Our school's robotics team need to keep accurate track of the weight of our robot during the build. Last year we had a scale that was so inaccurate we discovered it was reading off by 20 pounds! We were forced to cut so much metal off of our robot in order to make weight that one of our students used it to make a small metal sculpture of a man.
With these scales, my students will learn to keep track of their progress as they modify their designs during the manufacturing phase of our build. This should save us greatly on time and money.
With your help, these students will be able to accurately measure during the build phase, save money on materials and save valuable time. This program has helped many students from our school to choose careers in engineering and science, but we need the proper tools to teach them proper techniques.
