Grades 3-5

We are a highly populated kindergarten through 5th grade elementary school media center trying to teach young minds how to utilize new technology.

Students are living in a technology world but in many cases do not have access to technology at home. It is the school’s responsibility to encourage learning and provide hands-on experiences with technology. The majority of students in our school show more enthusiasm for learning when using technology to create final products for class. Flip cameras are versatile technology tools that can be used to create book trailers, video clips for class projects, introduce a research topic, allow students to practice public speaking, providing a way to present writing to the class, school or even the world by posting it on the school website. The possibilities for using flip video cameras are endless.

Our school library currently owns two flip video cameras. With the purchase of three more for the library, we could check these out to teachers for groups to work on projects in their classroom. During our flexible library time we can teach students how to use the flip cameras and encourage them to create book trailers for books they have read in the library. We already have the equipment to post their creations on the school website and also show them on the morning news show. Students are always encouraged to read when other students recommend the books.

Your help will ensure that the 2nd-5th grade students at our school will have a chance to learn about and use the latest flip camera technology to create final products that can be shown proudly to others.
