I propose to obtain a video projector, suitable for attachment to a standard PC (desktop or laptop) for the purpose of presenting lessons and supporting investigations within my 6th and 7th grade classes. The large majority of my classes have scored level 1 or 2 on Citywide and State math tests. I also have a large percentage of students that present behavioral challenges. In order to make the most progress towards helping these students, I must continually: (1) Search for new and interesting ways to engage them and focus their attentions. (2) Utilize the most effective teaching methods so that my time is leveraged, thereby leaving me more time for critical one-on-one instruction. (3) Take maximum advantage of best practices that can be found on the internet. The use of a video projector with a PC will allow me to take my efforts to another level, by allowing me to prepare exciting and dynamic classroom lessons. Also, provide guided investigations with the whole class. I have a number of working computers in my classroom that I personally maintain (I am a retired IBM engineer). A very suitable projector today can be purchased for as little as $700 - $800, although many cost a lot more. A low-end unit would be quite acceptable for me due to the relatively small size of my classroom compared to the other typical uses of these projectors.
