Students and Teachers are powerless in technology land in my teaching environment. My students are are from grade 4 gifted all the way up the ladder to 2nd career first time teachers. My teaching environment is a K-8 school as well as college level classes for my "Older students"
I am a constructivist therefore my students, no matter what age, are learning that understanding that learning is lifelong. There are so many resources in all areas of our everyday living that students want to utilize technology for research and creative presentations. The obstacle is that I only have one desktop computer and my students who I instruct are in two different schools. It is difficult to have students, who have a strong interest in technology, create notes and PowerPoint presentations, as well as student created games for focusing in on content area to reinforce critical and creative thinking skills.
My classes need a netbook so that they can create powerpoint point presentations as well as an ipod to enhance the creation. We have Peace Corp and ENO ( Environmental Online) epals that the students, both young and older, are involved with in correspondence and epresentations with. These two resources will allow teams of students to focus in on technological strategies for enhancing projects that are assigned to them. My students love to utilize the web and create from sources of research. My older students are required to create, while in class, presentations that are beneficial to them as educators. They also work as teams to create lessons for their students which would involve music and PowerPoint presentations, while using web sources.
Your generous help will accommodate the needs of the students both in intermediate grades and 1st time teachers as a second career. They can utilize their creativity in groups in order to create lessons/projects that will be used by both groups in the future. The presentations also serve as a component of an electronic portfolio. This opportunity allows for even the shiest person to feel empowered. This will be all to the gracious donation from you.
