I teach English and Social Studies in an extremely high need school in New York where students often don't have money to buy the school uniforms. Many of my students are struggling readers and there are limited books to offer them.

My school offers no class sets of any book. The students can't take a book home to read it. They are unable to read along with me as I read. We cannot have a large group discussion about any one book at the same time.

Each of my students need a copy of "To Kill a Mockingbird." This book not only has complex themes that are related to this year's content in their Social Studies class, but it also is a book of high interest that will prepare them for high school. By having their own book, they will be able to read along, take the book home, and for once, finally be a part of a class-wide discussion centered around an interesting topic and meaningful issues.

Your help will ensure that my students are prepared for the kind of curriculum they will face in high school, and it will make them feel like they are finally a part of something that is bigger than themselves.
