This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am an English Language Arts teacher and I teach a special education eighth grade class.
These students are willing to learn however, because of their disabilities, it is a bit of a challenge for them to learn the same materials as the other students in my building. Therefore, my job is to present the material using a creative, easy to understand way.
I asked for 28 copies of Romeo and Juliet because it is a play that many students today can relate to and reading this play in a graphic novel form will help them better understand Shakespeare. In addition, these students would be able to discuss this play with the other students in the building so they won't feel left out.
Your help will ensure that this special education class will have read and understood Shakespeare. These students will go to high school with knowledge about one of the most important playwrights to ever exist.
