My amazing 4th graders come with more in their backpack than books - they also carry the baggage of being high-poverty children coming to our inner-city school with faces filled with hopes and dreams.

I can get their attention if I let them express themselves artistically, but without the art materials, their faces become crestfallen. Who wants to create with a few dried-up markers or a colored pencil that is only an inch and a half long?

By receiving a bountiful array of art materials such as markers and colored pencils, my students can create to their hearts' content. No longer will I have to hoard a few markers hidden in the depths of my desk for special occasions, I can now set up ample materials for all to enjoy and use each day.
