I am a fourth grade teacher in a Brooklyn elementary school. Nearly 60% of the students receive free lunch in my Title I school. I have a large percentage of English Language Learners who need to be surrounded by books and immersed in language as much as possible. I have a great supply of books in my classroom library, but I have nowhere to put them. The children look at the boxes of books that are stored in my closets and wonder why they cannot get to them to read them. The truth is, simply, that I have nowhere to put them in the classroom. My proposal is for funding to purchase five (5) three-shelf bookcases for my classroom. Having these bookcases will mean that my students are surrounded by books. The children need to read as much as possible. Having these bookcases will help them to receive the education they desperately need and deserve. Please help my fourth grade students to become the avid readers they want to be.
