This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach Algebra 2 in a high poverty school to students in grades 9-11 where approximately 80% of the students receive free or reduced lunch.
Because of the cost, some of my students are unable to afford a graphing calculator which is essential to their success in Algebra 2. Having access to a graphing calculator in the classroom and subsequently, for the Algebra 2 End-of-Course test, will make it possible for students to be competent and prepared for success on the state-mandated test.
Having access to 3 additional graphing calculators in the classroom will aid my students in their learning of mathematical concepts. Algebra 2 is a minimum requirement for students to be accepted into a state-sponsored university.
You will make it possible for my students to be more competent as well as successful on the ALgebra 2 End of Course test by making "error free" computations and having a working knowledge of how to use and apply the technology.
