Mr. A. Eagle Academy Young Men II
Brooklyn, NY Grades 6-8

The Eagle of Academy for Young Men opened its doors in September of 2008 in the hart of a very troubled area of Brooklyn, NY. The future of many young men growing up in these communities has historically been bleak and disturbing. The school was designed and built specifically to meet the needs of an at-risk, male population that has consistently underachieved in the city of New York.

After opening our doors in September, we have noticed a significant improvement in student behavior and a strong adjustment to a rigorous academic setting. However, a thorough analysis of our students' reading skills has revealed an enormous literacy gap that needs to be closed. In order to increase the reading and writing skills of our young men and to instill a love of reading we need to build a library of literature excites and inspires our young men to read on a regular basis.

We are requesting a series of books that will engage our young men in active reading. We will use this literature as a means to grow our students' independent reading skills and build an excitement around our reading program that will serve as a valuable investment tool for our young men. The literature requested will not only serve as books of interest, but also teach valuable lessons that will grow the knowledge-base of our students in order for them to be globally conscious and globally competitive.

Through your support, we are confident that our young men will beat the odds and prove that all students can be successful given the access to the right resources. We are dedicated to making two years of reading growth for our students during their first academic year with us and we are confident that they can make this growth with your help.
