Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our school is one of the few that has fully included our special education students into the general education classrooms in a high poverty area. I have had great opportunities to help my students to be accepted by their peers and their teachers. I teach students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade with learning disabilities. My students are all receiving special education support by my paraeducator and myself daily. We have students that range from dyslexia to autism in our program.

Every year Special Education is given $300 to spend on classroom materials. This year with the budget cut, our funds have been frozen. The state of CA is also talking about ending school 5-10 days before the school year ends. I am not worried about my salary. I am more concerned about my students regressing. The students with learning disabilities have a lot more to lose because it's always harder for them to retain the information they have learned.

Therefore, I am requesting this equipment to be donated to help our students reach their fullest potential and catch up to their peers. The headphones with microphones will motivate them to read because after they read the stories, they can play it back and listen to it and hear themselves. The software is useless without these headphones with noise-canceling microphones.

You will make it possible for my students to become more motivated to read with technology.
