My Kindergarten class consists of 26 students that are eager to learn and are excited about reading. Their favorite books to read are Accelerated Reader (AR) books.

Accelerated Reader is a year-long reading motivation and management program that incorporates books that are easy for students to read. It is an incentive program aimed at motivating students to read more and to better comprehend what they have read. Students earn points as they read and successfully complete the computerized tests. Students take AR tests which determine their comprehension and understanding of the books they have read. This builds confidence, fluency, vocabulary, sight word recognition and reading comprehension for all students.

I do not have the adequate materials for everyone to participate in this exciting program. My class has a small number of books which forces students to wait until someone else is finished before they can take a book home for themselves. With your help my class will have an adequate number of books to offer for students to take home and read and read and read.

More opportunities for reading good literature at their level will improve their reading abilities while fostering a love of reading. Thank you for providing many opportunities for my students to shift reading into first gear!
