Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our class is a wonderful community of individual learners that have to deal with a multitude of challenges on a daily basis. Our kindergarten/first grade class of special education students, many of whom have an autism diagnosis, is housed in an older school in an urban setting. Most of our students receive free lunch, and the school district has been hit with extensive budgetary cut backs.

Due to the economic hardships and the high level of poverty in our community, it is becoming increasingly difficult to get the tools that our class needs on a daily basis to achieve our goals. Our students are a classroom of learners that thrive on a multitude of sensory input to enable learning. Without this input learning is inhibited because the students are unable to concentrate and get the most out of their education.

Our classroom is in desperate need of supplies that provide sensory stimulation to students in various ways. Each student requires that input, and each student needs a different type. When they receive the sensory input they crave, learning occurs. The students in our class will benefit from theraputty to help keep active hands busy, learning tools to help teach basic skills and other equipment to aid in sensory awareness.

Your help will ensure that my students will have the best chance to achieve their personal level of success. With your generosity my students will be able to not only gain academic success, but social success as well. Your funding will enhance the lifelong learning of some very special students.
