Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Do you remember reading "The Little Engine That Could?" Well my students are the little students who can. We just need the resources to help them reach that goal. I teach third grade and we are preparing for the FCAT state test. Reading comprehension is an important part of that test.

My students are all revved up and ready to learn. The only problem is our classroom is lacking adequate reading materials. We currently have 42 books which the children have already read.

If we had a larger classroom library, the children could read more often in the classroom and enhance their fluency, phonics and reading comprehension skills which will give them the tools that they need to obtain FCAT success. We also need a listening center for the ESOL students who listen to the story as they read along, as well as a media cart, and file cabinet to store additional reading resources which the children have unlimited access to. Some examples include reading workbooks (which do not fit in their desks) file folder language arts games, teacher provided periodicals, writing paper, student reading log folders, and extra reading comprehension worksheets.

I have taught my students to raise the bar and challenge themselves, yet, I do not have the reading materials to challenge them with. You can fix that.
