I love to teach reading. I have a wide variety of reading level in my class because I serve three grade levels at once. I have a self-contained (separate)K-2 special education class. I use a lot of center-type activities so that I can work directly with different reading groups separately. One center that I have never had is a listening center. Kids can listen to books read to them and read along in the books as the words are read. This helps build sight word knowledge and reading confidence as well as contributing to the pure enjoyment of reading. Most listening centers are "wired", meaning that headphones are connected to the player and the students have to stay right there. My experience with corded headphones is that they are easily broken and the cords are always getting in the way. When I found out there are cordless headphone listening centers I was thrilled! Imagine, a student can read along at their desk or in a special reading corner or on the carpet - anywhere they feel most comfortable. This will make reading feel more like a choice than a chore. I already have several book/tape sets that are appropriate but nothing to play them on! I can hardly wait to see my students enjoying this center. Thank you so much for helping to make this a reality for my students!
