Forces And Motion

My students need 2 energy and motion kits.

This project expired on May 25, 2009.

I teach physical science in an elementary public school in New York, where the students are eligible to eat free lunch and live in temporary shelters.

I demonstrated how the force of gravity affects two pieces of paper one of them rolled into a ball and the other a plain flat piece of paper. The students watched in amazement how the rolled up piece of paper fell to the floor faster while the flat piece of paper seemed to sail slowly downward. The students were so curious that they want to dive into the next activity. I believe that one activity is insufficient to help solidify science ideas. My students need multiple ways to manipulate hands - activities that will allow them to predict what the results will be. Then they can verbalize to the class the concept of motion described by its position, direction and speed.

My students would benefit from having two force and motion kits, that can be divided among six groups of students for inquiry, and to gain the science knowledge through experiencing the hands - on activity - them self . These kits will allow elementary students the needed time for exploration.

If you could give a gift to a needy kid, would you please consider giving the gift of an inquiry activity, so that my students will learn about the concept of force and motion outside of their textbook. They will pass their examinations because I believe the best way to learn something is by doing it. God Bless you and thank you.
