“History is a better guide, than good intentions.” (quote by Jeane Kirkpatrick). I teach 7th grade social studies with a focus on the social, economic, political, and geographic aspects of early American History. TECHNOLOGY + HISTORY = A MOTIVATED STUDENT I have found that any new technology or resource that can be integrated successfully (and seamlessly) into our classroom motivates each student to be engaged in the content and daily discussions. My students need a wireless, interactive tablet to foster an interactive classroom atmosphere where they can engage in first hand modeling of class activities and work collaboratively to synthesize information for classroom discussion. The wireless tablet device will allow un-tethered daily instruction in examining historical documents and maps to explore early American history (social studies 7th grade in NYS). The tablet device will help to draw students’ attention to specific pieces information within historical images, text, and even video, all used to interpret our past, present, and predict our future. Your donation will help to develop well-informed citizens for the future. This classroom tool will help to create critical thinkers who can analyze and apply higher-level content to social studies concepts and more importantly their own lives. The ability to analyze small bits of knowledge is a necessity for my students in our ever-increasing global community, which highlights sound bites and manipulated images on a regular basis.
