This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a general-education instructor at P.S. 137 in Brooklyn. Our school is a Title 1 school, and approximately 95 percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My goal for the upcoming year is to ensure that all my children are exposed to literature that they can see easily at the front of the class. Children need to see familiar words every day so that when they read independently, they will be able to recall the words they saw in the big books we read together.
As a third-year teacher, I'm constantly thinking of ways to develop a positive learning environment. Because my children come from diverse backgrounds, most of which are with immigrant families, I have centered my classroom on improving reading skills. My desire is to ensure that my children pass the third-grade exam and move on to the fourth grade without any problems.
The materials necessary for this project include several big books in different genres. There are twenty-five students in my classroom who would benefit from these big books.
I believe that my children will be future lawyers, doctors, teachers, and other professionals. I would like to ensure that they are excellent readers and therefore better workers in the community.
