Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students want to be better writers. Two extremely developmental years in the writing process are ninth and tenth grade which is what I teach. These years set the stage for how well students will do on the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) as well as STAR testing. My school continually scores lower on the sections of the test which require students to show grammar and usage, as well as writing skills. Because of this, it is essential I work with them extensively to improve their writing.

My students need immediate feedback and suggestions on their writing but I am unable to do so because the projector the school gives me requires me to use transparencies of any work I want displayed. This means that I have to make transparensies of examples of student work prior to teaching. Because of this, the earliest feedback and examples I can show students is, at the least, two days away--this may not sound long but to frustrated and confused students, this is the difference between many of them succeeding or giving up.

The ELMO TT-02S Teacher's Tool is a revolutionary projector that allows me to project anything, from a student's assignment on binder paper, a page from the novel, or even an object--literally anything that fits under its arm. This means, I could teach a lesson, have the students practice and take one of their papers--right then and there--put it under this projector and edit it in front of the whole class! This would give students the ability to get the one-on-one help they need, brainstorm together, and immediately get examples and assistance on their writing.

Your help will ensure that my students are given the opportunity to get the writing help they need immediately. Your help will make it possible for me to have my students practice writing on a daily basis, and what is more impressive, they will get the immediate feedback they so desperately need to succeed. I also teach the after school English tutoring for the school and thus, your support would be touching not only students in my class, but students in all English classes at my entire school who need support the most and only get to see me once a week--thus making immediate feedback a necessity.
