Would you like to help the oldest public school in Colorado(circa 1880)enter the 21st century? I am a 30 year master teacher and currently teach science to students in grades 4 and 5. Students love Science and have scored well above the state average in Science on state tests. Hands-on science takes place everyday for students despite the antiquity of the building itself. "Science rocks," students yell!

"Let's go on a field trip to the Rainforest; to Antarctica; to the Sand Dunes." I've often wished I was Miss Frizzle and had a Magic School bus to fulfill my student's dreams to see the world. Unfortunately, as public school teachers, we must face the reality of today's economics. But I too have had dreams to allow my students the opportunity to explore a variety of ecosystems and habitats different from their own backyards. So, if students can't travel physically, why not electronically or virtually? There are wonderful websites that take students on a virtual journey to places unknown. Unfortunately, our school building does not have a computer lab. I have a computer with Internet access in my classroom, but it is difficult for 20 students to huddle around the screen and explore the interactive features of a website. In addition, our school is very rural; highway travel for field trips are long and many times unsafe due to extreme weather related road conditions.

The most economical way to solve the problem of my students' curious nature about the ecosystems of the world, would be to have an LCD projector hooked up to the classroom Internet computer. The projected images could take the whole class on an affordable (and safe) field trip. No computer lab would be needed. Spontaneous 'teachable moments' could happen much like having a Magic School bus.

"The wheels of the bus go round and round" -well not always. Your support of this project will make it possible for students to have easy access to a world beyond the four walls of their classroom and homes.
