Whisper Phones-Calling All Readers

My students need a whisper phone in order to build fluency, comprehension, and phonetic sounds. I am requesting a set of 24 whisper phones.

I teach some wonderful third grade students who are thrilled to come to school daily to learn. I want to keep their attention and allow that inner light for reading to grow and continue to burn. Our school is a low-income school. My classroom has at least 45 percent of English Second Language Learners. Some have learning disabilities that make reading comprehension difficult. I want to incorporate materials to make reading comprehension and language learning more successful and fun for my students.

As I observe my new students during our teacher directed and group reading sessions, I noticed a boy reading aloud to himself. Over the following days, I observed him reading everything aloud from books to directions on math assignments. Other students began reading to themselves. While I want to encourage students to comprehend what they read, a classroom of buzzing voices made it difficult for my quieter children to concentrate. I remembered seeing phones that kids can whisper into and hear themselves. They can talk into the phones without their classmates hearing. This is the best solution to help my auditory students learn through talking to themselves while allowing my quieter ones the classroom environment more conducive to their learning styles. The phones prove useful during writing as well, because students can practice reading their stories aloud. They can hear mistakes or notice that they need punctuation so they can pause for air. The phones serve so many purposes that I am sure they will be a part of everyday learning activities. The "Reading Phones" are actually proven to aid in reading fluency and comprehension.

The Phonic Reading Phone is a teaching tool that helps students hear the speech sounds (phonemes) and words they say. By using the "Whisper Phone " students are able to hear what they say directly back to their own ears. The ability to hear and discriminate what they hear is greatly improved. Using the "Whisper Phone" allows students to work independently and provides auditory feedback necessary for improvement.

WhisperPhone is fun and easy to use, and research has proven that users can hear phonemes ten times more clearly when they’re wearing the WhisperPhone! That means that they can hear themselves better over background noise, and they can focus better on what they’re learning. Come on, help us whisper to better reading.
