I am a first grade teacher at Burr School in Chicago. I recently purchased a digital camera to use in my classroom. I just love it and so do my students! We take pictures all the time. They love having their picture taken when they are working on a project at school. They even ask me to take out my camera if I already haven't. I print out the pictures all the time. The students love to see themselves in print. They then usually write about their picture. I have also used their pictures for take home projects to do with their families. When we were studying the five senses, I took a picture of their heads. We labeled our faces by sense. I then laminated the photos, bound them with five blank papers and had them use magazines to cut out pictures for each sense. The students loved having their picture on the front of the project. Using the digital photos has made writing and projects so much more fun. The students take more ownership of the assignments, and I believe that they work harder. Unfortunately, the school cannot purchase the amount of color ink necessary to print out the photographs. We have the equipment, but the ink is too expensive to keep purchasing. It has been such a disappointment. Next year I have been told that our ink supply will be even more limited. I am trying to keep up with technology and problems like lack of ink make me so frustrated. Please support our request for ink so that we can continue to make use of our digital camera technology!
