Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am an ELA/Social Studies Instructional Support Teacher in Texas. I work with teachers and students in grades Pre K-2nd.

A common problem for many students in primary grades is fluency. Some students can read anything you give them, but in a monotone voice. Some students can read at very fast rate, but no one knows exactly what they have said. Some of the students are still struggling to read on a very low level. These students need to learn to reading with expression, attend to punctuation, use phrasing, and appropriate speed. To better reach all students no matter what their experience or level, a variety of fluency materials need to be available.

The resources that I have chosen to help the students become more fluent and excited about reading include a variety of materials to reach a variety of readers. The use of nursery rhymes, scripts, and fluency packs/banks will provided the students with a large array of materials that will reach them at their level. Student timers will allow the students to check/evaluate their own learning. This will put the students in control of their own destiny. It will empower them to reach for success in their own way!

Your donation will help many students at many different levels, not only this year, but for years to come. It will allow the students to achieve a goal that will help grow their love for reading in a fun and exciting way!
