My students need 18 sets of 25 library bags to carry their books to and from school. The bags hold a tag with their name and library number and keep the books in good condition to last much longer. They also keep them from getting lost as easily.

This is a large neighborhood school. There are five classes for each grade level. I teach Kindergarten to fourth grade students in the library. Half of our students are Chinese and about a quarter are Latino/a, so English is a second language for many of the students.

In order to keep the books we have in tip top shape, I give each student a draw string bag with their name and check out number on it so they can easily check out books and distinguish their bag from other students'. This keeps materials that are checked out safe, dry, and easy to find.

My project needs book bags for each child to keep our collection in good shape and encourage parent interaction with the child for reading success.

Funding is always in short supply. The bags help to keep our collection in good shape so that books can stay in circulation longer. I also hope to encourage parent interaction with the child for reading success. Your donation can make this happen for hundreds of 5-11 year olds and give them the key to success-literacy.
