Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher for hard-of-hearing students. My students are wonderful children and they love books. One of the most important parts of education for hard-of-hearing students is learning auditory skills. This is the ability for the students to use all the hearing they have to comprehend speakers. My students' favorite way of practicing their auditory skills is to listen to books on tape.
My students love to listen to books on tape. I know this may sound unusual because they are hard of hearing, but they just love to put on headphones and read along with the books. I have seen wonderful improvement with their listening skills through this activity.
The problem I am having is that my students are running out of books on tape to listen to. I have purchased some books on tape, gotten some cassettes and books from the library, and borrowed some from other teachers. But my students are getting older, and the books have become repetitive--they want some new books. They especially want books about science, historical figures, and other nonfiction topics.
This donation to purchase four sets of books on tape would be really appreciated. You would not just be donating books on tape--it would mean so much more. My students need to learn to improve their listening skills to function throughout their lives. They are learning the vital skills of how to listen and comprehend spoken language through this activity, as well as improving their reading. We would be very grateful if you gave us this gift.
