Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Leadership is Taught by Example! I teach Teen Leadership to 6th, 7th, & 8th graders. We have kids from a variety of backgrounds, many with no leadership skills demonstrated at home.

With all the great biographies of and movies about important leaders available, it's frustrating that I can't show them to my kids. New media can't be ordered on VHS any longer, and all we have are VCRs. Also, even when teachers purchase their own DVD players, there is often no way to hook it up to our TVs, which are out-dated and don't have anything but screw-in type hook-ups for antennas.

Having our own TV/DVD player/VCR cart would solve this problem in a big way. I'd be able to show them clips from current movies about leaders that matter to them, and I could get DVDs of biographies about leaders who came from backgrounds just like theirs.

Please help me show my kids their leadership potential! Kids learn in different ways, and me standing and talking to them about how important these skills are is not enough. I need to show them examples of real people with real leadership skills.
