Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a 6th grade teacher in an Illinois urban school. My classroom is filled with 30 students from diverse backgrounds. The school is nestled in a community with several low-income families.

Technology is a key component to success in the 21st century. In order for urban students to compete with their suburban counterparts, they need access to the same equipment. With recent budget cuts, our school was not able to provide printers for the classrooms. My students are required to do various research projects throughout the year. In order for all of the students to acquire and apply the knowledge that they access, they need to be able to print information. Sadly, they're currently not able to do that.

With a functioning printer (& ink!), more students will have the opportunity to do the necessary research. In addition, students will be able to print other documents that they have created, like essays, graphics, and poems.

With your help, my students will have a chance to print important academic materials. Presently, the only option is for them to either copy information on the screen by hand, or use the often overcrowded school library. Please help our class get a technological step-up, so every student has a chance for success!
