Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a fourth grade teacher in a very small school in Sonoma County, California. The students in our school are primarily non-native English speakers. We work very hard to give them all the advantages of the native English speaking students. Each year I begin working with a group of interested students, in fourth and fifth grades, who would like to perform in a Shakespearean play. The students begin practicing in January, memorize their lines at home, make their own costumes, and finally perform in June. In this, our sixth year, we will be presenting "A Midsummer Night's Dream" for our students and parents. Our school is very old and the only area we have for performances is a small cafeteria with really bad acoustics. To make matters worse, it houses an old milk chest that has a loud motor. When the motor cycles on and off the students' voices cannot be heard. After months of practice, many of the small voices cannot be enjoyed by the parents. My goal is to obtain a P.A. system that provides a microphone that can be worn by the students when they are saying their lines. We need a couple of speakers and several of the small attachable microphones.
