Walking is something you can do your whole life to help you stay fit, so I have a program at my school that helps teach students this. I am a Physical Education teacher for students K-3 and also severely and profoundly handicapped students Preschool age up to age 21 in an inner city school. We have been doing this walking program for several years to help students understand the importance of staying fit and healthy.

Our students take a card with them when they go to recess and every time they walk or run a lap, they get the card punched and when they fill the card, they get a toe token. They also get other awards as they accumulate miles. The students love this program. They won an award for walking the most miles in our state's public schools last year, but this year we do not have the funds in our budget to pay for this program. We would love any help we could get to continue this program for the kids.

Each student needs a 24" nickel coated necklace to put the tokens on and then the awards we need to put on them are 1000 glow in the dark toe tokens, 1000 twinkle toe tokens, 1000 see through toe tokens, 100 jumbo toe tokens, 1000 walker awards, 500 25 mile tokens, 500 50 mile tokens, 200 75 mile tokens, and 100 100 mile tokens. These small rewards give the kids a sense of accomplishment and will encourage them to walk for a lifetime.

Your help will ensure that our students will have the opportunity to help fight obesity by getting out and walking and exercising their body. Thanks for your help.
