Making Science Work in the Kindergarten Classroom!!
My students need science materials to help increase our science initiative in HISD.
"Science can be introduced to children well or poorly. If poorly, children can be turned away from science; they can develop a lifelong antipathy; they will be in a far worse condition than if they had never been introduced to science at all." -Isaac Asimov
I am a PK/Kindergarten Montessori teacher in a poverty ridden, low income area that I love to teach in! Our children should be able to have all of the resources available to them to be successful lifelong learners, regardless of where they come from.
Our school is pushing to increase our Science scores on TAKS. I believe, and I'm sure I'm not alone, the foundation begins with Early Childhood. The light in children's eyes that shine when they see what happens when colors mix to create a new one or to witness the life cycle of the butterfly - it is PRICELESS! But there are a few resources in my own classroom that I lack to accommodate my students. As grade level chair, I will be able to share these resources with my colleagues.
I need the science learning centers from Lakeshore to give the students opportunities to get hands-on experience with a variety of materials. This will allow the children to make a connection with the objectives I follow in the curriculum. The bookstand will accommodate the science big books I already have but I do not have adequate space to place them for the class to enjoy!
ATTENTION DONORS!!!! Your help will make it possible to begin the building of a great foundation for these young learners. It will allow for the light to continue to shine in their eyes for science!!
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
