Thank you for considering this proposal. We are a small middle school in rural NH, known as a resort area where many come to visit and keep second and third homes. Most of my students are not financially well-off, as many of our families work to support the resorts and outlet shopping centers. We are experiencing the painful squeeze of the energy situation, the depressed housing market and mortgage fiasco and rising prices for consumer products. We hear every year that it will be a "tight year, we can't afford this" right now and our budget consistently is challenged by rising fuel and health care costs. It's difficult to battle these issues when supplies are needed and I'm grateful that there are people out there who are ready to help classrooms who need to maintain 21st century teaching standards with antiquated or nonexistent resources. Again, most sincerely, thank you.

I've spent many years teaching 7th grade biology and this year I've been moved to 8th grade earth and physical science. The materials that were left for me to utilize this year fit into a small cupboard and I have no apparatus to teach climate or weather. These are key teaching strands for success on our high-stakes state testing and I'm struggling to find funding for hands-on resources. We all know that students learn material better when they are engaged and involved in realistic, quality activities that stimulate their brains to think outside the lessons and transfer their experiences to how the world works.

I have a set of earth science books published in 1995 and access to the Internet via our grade's computer lab. My students need resources beyond the pages of antiquated books in order to succeed. You can help make this possible for them.

I usually spend upwards of $800.00 a year of my own money to subsidize the needs of my classroom and this is not possible this year. It's very difficult to tell myself "No" and let opportunities slip by because the only one who could have provided those materials was myself. So many teachers across the country must be finding themselves in the same situation. Thank you for your consideration and please know that these materials will be utilized year after year, by many, many children. We have been asked to participate in a valley-wide science fair competition in the spring and I've been very worried about the ability of my students to compete well with other schools who have access to better resources. Your generosity will greatly help improve this situation. We appreciate your support!
