Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 9th and 10th grade Living Environment (biology) in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, NY. Many in our student population hail from one of the nearby housing projects and nearly 76% of our students qualify for free lunch. Despite the circumstances from which our students come, they are a motivated, intelligent and curious group of young people that inspire me to find new and exciting ways to present material to them. As a first-year-teacher, I am writing lessons and exploring the available resources for the first time. I am so excited by the sheer amount of innovative multimedia available online such as short and long videos, pictures, charts, etc. We are currently working on an evolution unit and in preparing the unit I found a number of short motivational videos on the PBS website. I would love to be able to show my students these and the many other available videos using an LCD projector. In addition, it would give me the capabilities to show lessons in a Powerpoint presentation. What is required for this project is an LCD projector that I can connect to my laptop computer. Over 150 students will benefit from this purchase through an overall enrichment of our learning environment and the bringing of the real world into our classroom through the incorporation of videos and pictures into our lessons.
