I Finally Got Promoted to First Grade Part 1!

My students need these books for "Browsing Boxes." - baskets of books leveled for students to read independently during independent literacy centers while I am teaching guided reading groups.

I am "Looping" to first grade with my kindergarten class. I teach and love a diverse group of students. I teach in an agricultural community where many of my students are indigent. All of the students at my school receive free breakfast and 65% or more are eligible for free and reduced lunch.

I want to dive right into reading the first few weeks of school. This will be possible with your help since I am "Looping" with my class. I already know my students' strengths and weaknesses. My students' abilities range from not completely knowing the alphabet to a few of my students reading on a third to fourth grade level. However, since I am moving up to first grade from kindergarten I am in desperate need of first grade and up leveled readers that my students can read independently.

The leveled readers I am requesting will be used to help boost my students' self esteem through independent reading. The more a student reads the better reader the student becomes. Having a variety of books to entice children will only make them want to read more. This project will also allow the children to take books home to read to their families. This will be a great home school connection for parents to see their child's reading growth throughout the year.

Please help to make to the beginning of first grade a big "Splash" as I help my students dive into reading! I can only imagine the joy on my students' faces when they come back to school and see a new library of books in our classroom. With your generous support I know my students will be off to a great start. I encourage you to help me instill the love of reading, so that we can create life long readers!
