My students need an easy, convenient way to capture their memories and learning during the school year that allows for easy printing when compiling their personal portfolios and scrapbooks about their year in child development.

I teach a combination three and four-year-old child development class in a rural school in South Carolina. I teach twenty children all subject areas - language arts, science, math, music, art, drama, physical activity, and health. All of my students, currently and in the future, will participate in this endeavor. I want my students to have more resources readily available to them to encourage inquiry into topics that intrigue them.

My students LOVE having their pictures taken and taking pictures of their creations, learning, and friends. They enjoy creating scrapbooks throughout the year that are completed and sent home in June. The books help document their learning throughout the year through the students' eyes - they choose what is important. These books are cherished by parents and students alike. Recently, my students have wanted to post their pictures online on our class webpage.

Our class needs a digital camera, photo printer, memory card, photo paper, and ink to make these scrapbooks (online and hard copy) possible. In the past, I have had to use personal money and donations from parents to develop film to create these scrapbooks. I have also not been able to post them online because they are not digital prints. These supplies will enable the students to take and use more pictures to document their year in child development. It will also help me document classroom happenings for the students and parents. This project will help 20 students this year, but also the future students in my class.

Your help will empower young children to develop their photography skills, distinguish what they consider meaningful learning, and give them practice in using digital technology. Students this year and in future will have access to this technology and will be able to proudly display their learning and important events in their lives as students with parents and others. Help foster these young students' eagerness to share their learning!
