Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I teach exceptional children in grades five through eight at a rural North Carolina middle school. I teach both reading and math and would like to acquire one computer station that could be used to access Internet resources and run computer programs that would build my students reading and math skills. As a part of our technology grant, our students complete project-based learning activities which facilitate learning through multimedia. I would like for my students to have one additional computer station so that a group could work in the classroom to complete activities using technology and Internet resources. With an additional computer station, more students that I serve will have opportunities to prepare Powerpoint presentations and complete Internet research for their mainstream classes. The additional computer would also provide access for using Internet-based remediation programs and for reading and math software that we have available at our school. North Carolina students must also pass a computer proficiency test. This station would provide another place for our students to practice tested skills. Approximately twenty five students per school year would have access to this additional computer station.
