Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As simple as it may seem, my students need books!! In the six years that I have worked in this inner city school, I have worked with the most amazing students that I could ever imagine. Our school is in extreme need of resources to motivate our students. I have chosen books that will encourage the students to begin reading chapter books, a major step in becoming an expert reader.

I simply don't have enough novel sets to introduce chapter books in reading groups. Our current classroom library is tattered and incomplete. To compound the situation, our school library is located in a small trailer added to the back of the school in the 70's. There is simply not enough room for a complete collection and my students are not interested in most of the books that are available to them.

I am requesting a new classroom library complete with a mobile library cart, sets of popular novels such as Charlotte's Web and How to Eat Fried Worms, plus two floor pillows to make our new classroom library comfy and inviting. I am requesting a library filled with titles to use in small group instruction, buddy workstations, and independent reading. My goal is to give my students a library that provides endless reading opportunities.

Please support these wonderfully deserving students in their journey to reading success! With your help, I will have resources to motivate young readers. This library will help not only my current students, but students in years to come! Thank you for your support!
